Black Girl Magic-zine
Representation is extremely important and something Annette Bazira-Okafor wanted to create more of–especially for 9 year old daughter. Black girl's are so scarce in the magazines they read so they decided to create their own.
Black Girl's Magazine, a magazine for all girls written and illustrated by 12 girls in the GTA. They're all writing about their own experiences, creating a medium for other girls to see themselves represented.
It is so important for everyone to be able to see people who look like them in media being diverse and creating positive change. That is all I ever wanted when I was a kid, to be able to see myself when I looked on a screen or in a book–not only fitting into stereotypes.
Yantics applauds these young ladies greatly for taking this huge step and giving girls, who seldom see themselves, a place to be represented.
